A142 reinforcement mesh is the most frequently used mesh for light duty domestic concreting to strengthen foundations, floor slabs and walls where the concrete is generally 100 - 150mm thick. A142 mesh is often specified for DIY, Self-Build and many domestic applications such as patios, paving slabs, driveways, shed and garage bases, garden rooms and home office foundations, walls etc. As the expected loads placed on domestic concrete slabs etc. are relatively low, there is less requirement for a heavier mesh (depending on traffic volume). A142 mesh is relatively light and easy to manoeuvre into place and is also available in merchant size for easier transport and convenience on-site.
When encased in concrete, reinforcing mesh greatly increases the rigidity and strength of a slab or beam. As the coefficient of thermal expansion is similar in both steel and concrete, a steel mesh reinforced concrete slab or wall expands and contracts at a comparable rate, therefore temperature fluctuations will not cause cracking of the concrete. Reinforcing steel is very strong in tension and concrete is strong in compression, by combining these two materials a very durable building structure is created. Steel reinforcement mesh is frequently specified by a qualified structural engineer. A142 mesh is manufactured to BS4483/2005.
ECO Mesh offers an increased efficiency engineered solution for reinforced concrete floors by saving a reinforcement wire on each lap of the mesh sheet. ECO mesh has the same centres as standard fabric mesh with the exception of the external overhangs which are 200mm compared to 100mm.

Genius Hints Always have sufficient concrete covering for the mesh, both above, below and around. Mesh should be supported from below at regular intervals by Continuous Hystools, Circular Wire Spacers, Concrete Bar Spacers or Plate Spacers which are made for this purpose. Lemon carry a large stock of these and many more accessories and can deliver to site along with your reinforcement on one of our specialist crane offload lorries.
Standardised mesh fabric is defined in British Standard denominations (such as A193, or B785). These numbers refer to the cross sectional areas of the mesh per metre squared. So with A193 mesh for example, there is 193mm2 of steel in each 1m (1000mm) width of mesh.
All reinforcing mesh is manufactured to BS4483/2005 with CARES certification. Please visit our downloads section for Lemon CARES approval certificates.

Excellent product. Used on guide walls which we do often. Very easy to use.
We use the smaller size (3.6 x 2.0) because its easier to handle. Have used it many times for driveways and small bases. Ideal.
We are a merchant who get asked for loads of mesh and this is the most popular. Its because its the lighest and cheapest.
